A Media Access Control Address (MAC Address) is a unique code that is permanently assigned to a hardware device with networking capabilities. Every NOOK will have their own unique MAC Address. MAC Address filtering is an additional security method that can be enabled on a wireless network that limits which devices can connect to the network by listing each individual address somewhere within the network's settings.
By default, most home networks will not have this feature enabled as it takes additional effort to setup. If MAC Address filtering is enabled, NOOK will not be able to connect to the network until the device's MAC Address is added to the list of approved addresses.
Nook For Mac Support
Barnes & Noble Digital Support can assist a customer with locating their device’s MAC Address. B&N Digital Support cannot walk a customer through their network and router settings to enable/disable MAC Address filtering or add a MAC Address to their list of approved addresses. If a customer requests this, you must refer them to their Network Administrator, Router Manufacturer, or Internet Service Provider (if they provided them with the router).
